    Of 2,150 cybersecurity professionals surveyed by Hiscox, over 67% said their organization experienced an increase in cyberattacks in the past year. While cyber insurance take-up rates continue to rise, over a quarter of business leaders said their organization does not have sufficient resources to manage the financial risks associated with a cyber incident.

    According to a recent survey by WTW, only half of key decision-makers and the teams supporting them are confident that their organization’s approach enables it to respond to today’s risk environment. Even more troubling, only 23% are confident their organization’s strategy will remain resilient to risks that emerge in the next decade.

    In a survey of 5,000 IT and cybersecurity leaders, cybersecurity firm Sophos found that 97% of companies with a cyber insurance policy had invested in improving their defenses in order to help with insurance. More than three-fourths of respondents said these investments enabled their organization to qualify for coverage, 67% got better pricing and 30% secured more beneficial policy terms. The survey also found that recovery costs are significantly outpacing insurance coverage.

    While large vessel losses hit a record low in 2023, geopolitical risks are rapidly increasing the threats to global shipping, according to Allianz’s Safety and Shipping Review 2024. Attacks on ships in the Red Sea by Houthi militants have led to significant changes in global shipping routes, with traffic through the Suez Canal (the primary passage between Europe and Asia) down more than 40% at the beginning of 2024.
