Julia Grapsa, MD, PhD, FACC I have witnessed a lot of use of VA-ECMO for cardiogenic shock in my clinical practice. It is often used as a bridge to revascularization, as was the case with many patients from this trial. Of interest, the patients in ECLS-SHOCK had an arterial lactate level of more than 3 mmol/L. Also included were patients with signs of impaired organ perfusion and, as is traditional with cardiogenic shock, low systolic BP.
