If a winner for one of the most exciting games of the season cannot be decided in 90 minutes, the match will go to extra-time and if nothing can separate the two teams after that, a penalty shootout will await. City recorded an impressive seven clean sheets in the league phase, with Simpson-Pusey a part of six of them. The Blues also conceded the fewest goals (23), a new record lowest tally in the league phase since the competition’s restructure in 2023/24.

It was another quick start from Oliver Reiss’ side with Christian Dunbar-McDonald putting City ahead inside the opening 10 minutes. But two quick goals for the hosts early in the second half, from Kacey Wooster and Matheos Ferreira, posed a new challenge for the Blues. Oliver Reiss’ young side met it head on, though, with Leke Drake’s header drawing City level on 69 minutes.

After a tightly contested first half in Friday’s semi-final, Divin Mubama gave City a well-deserved lead on 66 minutes, nodding home from close range after a fantastic Lakyle Samuel cross. The game continued to be a tight and difficult affair until the 89th minute when Mubama struck again, putting the game out of reach for the Red Devils with a clever backheel.
