1. IntroductionHybrid flow shop scheduling problems (HFSPs) occur frequently in many manufacturing industries, such as chemical engineering, metallurgy, textiles, petrochemicals, airplane engines, and semiconductors [1]. Compared with a flow shop, a hybrid flow shop has at least two stages, including at least one stage with at least two parallel machines. The redundancy of the machines used may enable dealing with jobs flexibly and avoid bottlenecks [2].
