1 Introduction Phenology plays an important role in regulating the ecosystem carbon uptake process (Abu-Asab et al., 2001; Bradley et al., 1999). Vegetation phenology, for example, leaf unfolding and falling, regulates many ecosystem processes, such as the carbon cycle, water evaporation, mineralization, and absorption of nutrients (Estiarte and Peñuelas, 2015; Piao et al., 2007).
