    Actor Presley Chweneyagae’s funeral service is under way at the Akasia Community Hall in northern Pretoria. Industry colleagues, friends, and family have turned up in their numbers to pay their last respects to the actor who was affectionately known as ‘Cobrizi’ or ‘Mokwepa’. He died at his home in Pretoria last week at the age of 40. Livestream: An earlier private prayer service was held at the home of the bereaved family.

    The Director of South Africa’s Oscar Award-winning movie Tsotsi, Gavin Hood, has shared fond memories he had with late actor Presley Chweneyagae. He spoke at Chweneyagae’s memorial service at the State Theatre in Pretoria yesterday afternoon. ‘Cobrizi’, as he was commonly known, died last week at his Pretoria home and will be laid to rest on Saturday. Hood recalls how he was introduced to Chweneyagae.

    The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial is expected to resume today at the High Court in Pretoria. Five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the football star. Defence lawyer for accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, has tried to poke some holes in the testimony of lead investigator, Brigadier Bongani Gininda. Sibiya has denied pointing out the Senzo Meyiwa crime scene. He insists he was repeatedly assaulted by police officers at various locations following his arrest in May 2020.

    Police have confirmed through DNA tests that the bodies of journalist Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Mdhluli have been found. The pair was last seen in Mamelodi, Pretoria, in February. Police recovered their remains in Rust de Winter, in Limpopo. DNA tests on the bodies came back as positive matches. Seven suspects have appeared in the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga. National Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says investigations are continuing.

    The case against a man accused of allegedly starting the fire last month which destroyed sections of Tembisa Hospital will continue on Friday. 48-year-old Thembinkosi Manqunyana appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing a charge of arson and malicious damage to property. The case was postponed allowing the Director of Public Prosecutions to decide on whether the charge should be classified as schedule one or schedule five offence.
