There’s a long way to go, and Priory have yet to play against any of the better teams in the division, but the form of both batters and bowlers augurs well for the immediate future. On 24 May, they travelled to Buxted Park.

HUGH SULLIVANLee Carey featured prominently as a 19-year-old in the Hastings United promotion side of 2006/7 and captained the team in the FA cup run of 2012/13. He returned to the club’s Pilot Field headquarters to assist chairman Dean White in managing the team for the run-in last season and has now been appointed permanent men’s first team manager for next season. He will start, however, with a dearth of aces in his pack.

HUGH SULLIVANThe Vive Hotel at 44 Havelock Road in Hastings Town Centre closed last month after two companies involved in its management – Havelock Property Limited and Havelock 1 Limited – were declared insolvent and put into administration. Sole director and shareholder of both, Sean Cochrane, appears to have dissociated himself after firing up to 15 hotel staff with their last month’s wages unpaid.

HUGH SULLIVANThe Bexhill Colonnade, which accommodates a parade of independent shops and cafes along the seafront promenade immediately below the De La Warr Pavilion, is to undergo extensive renovation and refurbishment from September. The whole parade, an Edwardian structure which pre-dates the Pavilion, is suffering from structural problems, including water ingress from above in various places, and it’s universally accepted that this work is overdue.
