The Achilles tendon is critical for transferring load, enabling movement of the lower limbs, and storing energy to allow highly dynamic and challenging functional activities to be performed. While the structure’s material properties, strain behaviour, and loading conditions have been relatively well characterised [22, 138], only limited consensus has been reached on its functional behaviour in vivo.

This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Beijing Sport University (2019081H) and conducted in compliance with the 1964 declaration of Helsinki. Informed consent was obtained from patients before participating in the study. First the AJFAT was translated and cross-culturally adapted from English to Chinese; Second reliability and validity of the AJFAT-C were assessed (Fig. 1). We obtained authorization from the author of the original AJFAT.
