Tweet us @ArkBusiness or email us Here in Arkansas and across much of the country, we have pushed to more closely align public secondary and higher education with the demands of industry. This is 100% the right move, but I’m constantly on guard against approaches that pursue this end to the detriment of the humanities. It’s rarely explicit, but I do often find it implicit in language around the return on investment on certain courses of study.

That came on the heels of our Arkansas Business of the Year Awards ceremony, and it will be followed shortly by the 20 in Their 20s honorees and the Executive of the Year Awards. What I’m trying to say is we put on a lot of recognition programs here.

I was a reporter at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette when Arkansans voted to legalize cannabis for medicinal use in 2016, and shortly after, I was assigned to cover the state’s and industry’s efforts to open the first growing facilities and dispensaries.

Tweet us @ArkBusiness or email us We’re nearly a year removed from the release of the Downtown Little Rock Master Plan, but the landscape is much different now. When the report was released last year, fanfare, hope and excitement accompanied it as local business and political leaders looked to a proposed 1% sales tax on the ballot in Little Rock last November.

That’s what I said when Lyon College first announced plans three years ago to open Arkansas’ first dental and veterinary schools. I’m sure I said it several times in the years since, but as you can see on today’s front page, it’s time to believe.
