Having already beaten Aberavon in Cup and league, Llandovery made it a season’s treble with this close win. It should give them a home draw in the quarter-final playoffs on May 3, probably against fifth-placed Pontypool. The performance was much improved from last week’s 42-24 defeat at Swansea but the general feeling was that they let slip a chance for a maximum return. “We controlled the game for most of the time but let them in at crucial moments,” said coach Euros Evans.

Mr Birns had been the airport's CEO for four years and had spent a total of over 18 years in various roles at the company. The Welsh government, which bought the airport in 2013 for £52m and has spent £181m on it in total, said it was aware the chief executive had left his position.
