    Scheffler - who pipped Dechambeau to finish fourth behind McIlroy at the Masters - was utterly dominant in his hometown tournament last week, posting rounds of 61, 63, 66 and 63. His aggregate of 253 at TPC Craig Ranch equalled the PGA Tour record. In claiming his 14th tour victory, the 28-year-old Texan was top in no fewer than 14 statistical categories. They included, strokes gained tee to green and approach, putting average, total birdies and scoring average on par three, four and five holes.

    Neither victory came against the strongest of fields, but Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau have signalled that Rory McIlroy is not the only player riding high as golf races towards the second men's major of the year. Scheffler put on a masterclass with his 31 under par wire-to-wire victory, by eight strokes, over Erik van Rooyen at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. In so doing, the world number one emphatically reminded us of his status at the top of the rankings.

    Any bid will require government funding and staging the Solheim Cup sits on the UK sports' major events hosting target list which also includes the Fifa Women's World Cup in 2035. Only last month the outgoing chair of UK Sport, Dame Katherine Grainger expressed frustration that Britain is not staging more major events over the coming decade.     WHS was brought in to help make golf more inclusive. Players do not have to be a club member to acquire a handicap which can then be used at any course in the world. In line with scores submitted, golfers are given a 'handicap index' which will provide the appropriate number of shots for the difficulty of the course they are playing. This should enable players of all abilities to play against each other.
