The ball dropped out of the sky, catching the defender off guard. For a moment there was real danger until he managed to smuggle the ball out for a throw in. Everyone is chilled... a little too chilled. The throw is taken quickly, half the defence is caught napping, the other half stand rooted to the spot like statues. The opposition work the ball to the best player on the pitch who carefully curls a shot into the bottom corner to open the scoring.

There's a well worn theory about not looking at the league table until ten games have passed. In times gone by, some publications didn't even print a table until this point. However, in this data hungry modern world, that simply doesn't happen anymore as people are analysing from the get-go, even enjoying a table with one game played in Manchester United's case.

Back on a sunny summers day in 2023, Enzo Maresca was announced as the new Foxes manager and was filmed with a beaming smile and that Jacket, shaking hands with the crew at Seagrave. Later that day, pictures emerged on Twitter of a Lamborghini, suspected to be Enzo's, cruising around the City. As we all know, he took that car to Europe and bought a winger, his name is Mavididi. There's similarities with what I'm going to write with David Bevan's article on Abdul Fatawu last week.

You might think you’ve seen that first forty-five minutes of football play out before at the King Power, a team with all men behind the ball and Leicester City patiently trying to grind them down. It doesn’t necessarily make for the easiest of watches, but Maresca’s men know that patience pays off, a comfortable 3-0 victory secured in the second half. Bragging rights assured for Foxes fans at the Christmas table nationwide.

The Flying Scotsman passed through Oakham Station this morning, much to the delight of onlookers and local train enthusiasts. The 100-year-old Steam Locomotive 60103, 'The Flying Scotsman', passed through Oakham this morning, and is set to return this evening, Wednesday 13 December 2023. This goal-line technology could go further and cover the whole perimeter of the pitch, thereby offering real-time proof that the ball is in or out. That would eliminate one of the things VAR (inconclusively) is used for and would be something that works instantly to give a definitive decision. There’s a lot wrong in my opinion but the main thing is this: it reduces the most enjoyable part of being a football fan; that explosion of joy when the ball hits the net.

High noon on Sunday saw the Foxes bandwagon roll into Blackburn. A midday kick off meant an early start for the 3,000+ fans making the trip to Ewood Park. It's also a tricky timeslot for those of us watching at home. Despite the game being scheduled for a while, according to my wife the lunchtime kick off had "wrecked the day" no less! Regardless, we settled down as a family to watch it and my mind was taken back to those days when all games were televised with matches behind closed doors.
