MANILA, Philippines — The incumbent mayor of Rizal, Cagayan was shot dead during a campaign sortie, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP). According to a police report by the Police Regional Office 2, Mayor Joel Ruma and another victim, Merson Abiguebel, were shot during a campaign rally at the barangay hall of Barangay Illuru Sur around 9:30 p.m on Wednesday, April 23. The mayor and Abiguebel were rushed to Tuao District Hospital following the incident.

MANILA, Philippines — Two weather systems may bring cloudy skies with rains across the country on Thursday, April 24, state weather bureau PAGASA said. In its weather forecast, PAGASA said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) may affect southern Mindanao, while the easterlies may affect the rest of the country. Zamboanga Peninsula, SOCCSKSARGEN, Davao Occidental, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the ITCZ.

MANILA, Philippines — The cyberlibel complaint filed by former Antonio Trillanes IV against former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque has been junked by a prosecutor. Department of Justice spokesperson Mico Clavano confirmed to reporters on Wednesday, April 23, that the complaint against Roque was dismissed by a Quezon City prosecutor due to "insufficiency" of evidence to file the criminal case.
