Preps of the week: Terra Linda puts on a dominant display at MCALs

May 5-A slew of league titles were handed out last week in swimming, lacrosse, boys golf, and boys volleyball. The Terra Linda boys swim team put on one of the top performances across the board, winning all but one race at MCALs while setting multiple meet records. The Tam girls avenged a close loss to Redwood last season to claim the title this year. Redwood won the boys tennis title, Tam won the boys golf title, and Marin Catholic swept the lacrosse titles.

May 2-Tam High coach Derry Ryan had a front-row seat as Redwood sophomore Cole O'Connell strung together the best round of the day at the MCAL boys golf championships at StoneTree Golf Club on Thursday. Meanwhile, his team of Red-tailed Hawks - marshaled by other MCAL coaches - put together enough good rounds to claim the team title by the slimmest of margins.

Meanwhile, his team of Red-tailed Hawks – marshaled by other MCAL coaches – put together enough good rounds to claim the team title by the slimmest of margins. As the players gathered back at the clubhouse, neither O’Connell nor the Red-tailed Hawks could be totally sure that they had done enough to win.

There's plenty at stake as the MCAL baseball season heads into its final two weeks, with just one loss separating seventh place from third place. To that end, Novato got exactly what it needed with a pair of wins against Branson fueled by a red-hot week at the plate from Julian Oliver. The two teams who can safely say they are going to make the league playoffs - San Marin and Tam - both picked up sweeps last week.

Eden Clark and Elisa Cobb, Tam softballClark turned in one of the best pitching performances of her MCAL career, shutting out Redwood for seven innings while allowing four hits against 12 strikeouts on Wednesday. Clark also delivered the biggest hit of the game, an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth, as Tam pulled out a 1-0 upset win. Cobb provided a pair of big hits in Tam’s 7-4 victory against Novato on Monday, driving in a team-high three runs and scoring once.
Preps of the week: Track standouts show out at Viking Classic

The Tam High boys track team enjoyed a huge day at the Viking Track Classic at Montgomery High in Santa Rosa on Saturday, winning the event in landslide fashion. Five different Red-tailed Hawks won individual events, led by Nate Wanger who won the 200 meters, the 400, and participated on a winning relay. Redwood’s Julia Bayon also had a strong performance at the event, winning both of the sprints.
