The prep sports season all but officially wrapped up this past weekend as Marin’s top track athletes competed on the biggest stage — the State Meet at Buchanan High in Clovis on Saturday. San Rafael’s Ellie McCuskey-Hay, Redwood High’s Annalise Horn, and The Branson School’s 4×800 relay team were among the standouts. Elsewhere, a pair of Tam golfers qualified for the State Championship. On the baseball diamond, Marin Catholic and Tam were the last two Marin teams left standing.

San Rafael High’s Thomara Drummer and Salesian College Prep’s DeAmor Coleman were locked in a classic pitchers’ duel during their North Coast Section Division IV quarterfinal game at San Rafael on Friday. Drummer struck out a career-high 18 hitters en route to closing the game with six shutout innings but Salesian got off a couple of good swings in the first inning and that proved to be enough in the Pride’s 2-1 victory.

May 22-Marin Catholic's Malliah Foster began the game by pitching out of a two-on, no-out jam so when Petaluma found itself in that situation again with the game on the line in the sixth inning, the Trojans changed their approach. Petaluma swung away in the first inning but MC catcher Lyla Gonzalez made a spectacular catch in foul territory, Bella Ferrety threw out a runner at home, and Foster registered a strikeout to end the early threat.
