I never really got into digital technology. I’ve always used it for my needs like banking apps, GPS, and Uber but that’s about it. I’m only on social media because I have some friends who are only on Instagram so we talk through there. My average screen time is around 10-15 minutes. So making this switch didn’t change the way I use a cellphone. Although I had been using my iPhone kinda like a dumphone, actually making the switch had important effects on my daily life.

Why do we let other people affect us? Why is it that one word, a single act from someone else can change our whole world. Bring our high spirits down. We are happy and at peace one second and the complete opposite the next. It’s so much harder and takes more effort to get back into good spirits but so easy to remain in the negative. We do it as if it takes no effort.

The future - the great unknown - can be scary to think about because all of us know subconsciously that one common end awaits us all, death. This reality, outside of our control, creeps into our thoughts when we think about the future. It blots our good expectations about it by placing doubt, uncertainty, and fear for the great unknown.

We automatically set expectations without knowing that we do. The cues we get from the environment, ambiance, people we are with, the things we are going to do in addition to a multitude of other factors sets the expectation. Let's say you are going to dinner with your friend. The second you walk into the restaurant, the expectation reaction kicks-in.

Once I am in it, the harder it is to get out of it. And the more I try to, the deeper I fall into it. As my descent continues, I learn that over-thinking is a bottomless pit. The mind has learned to start the over-thinking process so well that all it needs is a cue. The lightest will do. And so starts the process of over-thinking. I am taken away from the ever so precious moment and put into a place of anxiety. One that gets stronger the longer I am there and holds me from coming back.
