Several laws targeting child labor are making their way through the Ohio statehouse. A Republican sponsored bill would extend the hours young teens can work during the school year. Supporters say families who want their kids working jobs that run later should be allowed to do so. Critics say it's just another way to chip away at laws protecting kids, who they say should be studying or playing.

Five years ago, the COVID-19 pandemic forced most K-12 schools in the United States to close their doors and go into remote-learning mode. Students were expected to learn through a computer screen regardless of their grade. The pandemic has permanently altered K-12 education, leaving long-term consequences that are still felt today by students, teachers, administrators and parents. Many experts are concerned that these challenges will persist for years to come.

America is becoming a nation of homebodies. During the pandemic, we all spent more time at home— sometimes more than we would have liked to. But researchers have found the trend of spending more time at home actually predates the pandemic, by several decades. Technology may play a role in our reluctance to step outside the front door, but there's more to the story.

There are a lot of new economic investments happening in Ohio, promising thousands of well-paying jobs. Defense contractor Anduril recently announced a production facility that plans to bring in 4,000 jobs, set to begin production next year. Intel is working on building two semiconductor plants expected to open around 2030, creating 3,000 well-paying jobs, and cost a total of $28 billion dollars. These are some of the biggest economic investments the state has ever seen.

NEOhio used to be just ... trees! I know, you would have never guessed. But a new study from @BaldwinWallace tracks how tree cover has changed over the decades, and how deforestation continues in spite of population loss. My latest for @Ideastream. https://t.co/883Tt43ILx
