Ghana recently made history after it granted 524 people citizenship, most of whom are Philadelphians, thanks to a campaign asking Black Americans to “come home.” Hundreds of Black Americans who have immigrated to Ghana in the past years, after Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghana’s president, invited them to ‘come home’ — to leave the many challenges facing African Americans in the United States. It’s all part of Ghana’s attempt to market this nation of 35 million as a mecca for Black people around the world.

The federal government’s imminent enforcement of import duties on private jet operations in Nigeria is seen boosting public sector revenue, stakeholders told BusinessDay. Earlier in the year, Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace, had said that the federal government was set to arrest and sanction illegal flights and non-certified personnel. Keyamo had accused new private jet owners of approaching aviation regulators to request approval to use their aircraft to fly family or friends.

The Nigeria Customs Service has extended the verification exercise for private jet owners by one month, from Monday, 14th October 2024, to Thursday, November 14, 2024. A statement signed Abdullahi Maiwada, Customs Spokesperson, on Monday, said the extension is to further engage operators who have expressed willingness to regularise their import duties.

Air Peace has distanced itself from the current ordeals and arrest of Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), saying its petition against the body in 2023 has since been withdrawn. Air Peace noted that it has nothing to do with Ajaero’s arrest.
