TOKYO – Hyundai Motor Co. will accelerate its penetration into Japan, a market it has been struggling to crack for decades, with small-size electric vehicles, said its Chief Executive Chang Jae-hoon on Monday. The South Korean carmaker is scheduled to launch an electric model of Casper, its smallest sport utility vehicle, in Japan in the first half of this year. It will sell them mostly on online platforms there.

SK Hynix Inc. is investigating the possibility of building a plant for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), vital for generative artificial intelligence, in other countries, including Japan and the US, if it needs to expand its capacity, its parent group Chairman Chey Tae-won said in an interview with Nikkei. Kia EV9, the signature large all-electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) of South Korea’s No. 2 automaker Kia Corp., was named “North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle (NACTOY) of the Year 2024” on Friday. This is the third occasion in five years that the NACTOY jury has named a Kia vehicle as its top choice in the category, and the second win for a Kia electric vehicle (EV). Hyundai Motor Co. 's crossover electric vehicle (EV) sport-utility vehicle (SUV) IONIQ 5 has been selected as the Car of the Year 2023 in Singapore by the nation’s largest daily newspaper Straits Times. According to the company, this is the first Hyundai to win the coveted title and the second South Korean model since the Kia Stinger received the honors in 2018.
