    TRENTON – About four hours or so into last week’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on a ballot redesign bill, Leonard Filipowski stepped to the mic. For the occasion, he used another name – Leroy Truth. He said he opposed the bill, but that didn’t seem to be his main point. Filipowski, or if you prefer, Truth, a proclaimed independent journalist, has been waging a sort of private war against Sen. Brian Stack, the committee chair and the mayor of Union City. The dispute has had its share of drama.

    Sherrill Wins Mercer Democratic Backing In her ongoing Democratic Primary bid for governor, U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill tonight won the formal backing of the Mercer County Democratic Committee.     ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS – This town’s “Trumpy mayor” wants to be the state’s “Trumpy governor.”Mario Kranjac, the mayor of this Bergen County town above the Hudson River, says he’s running for governor. Kranjac said he is running as an America First candidate to finish the job Donald Trump began last fall. By that he means win New Jersey. Kamala Harris won the state last fall, but her winning margin was surprisingly small, giving hope to Republicans for 2025.
