A secret report compiled by the NPCC (National Police Chiefs’ Council), a national body of senior police officers in the United Kingdom, states that Hindu extremists may worsen community relations between Hindus and other faith groups, including Muslims and Sikhs, in the UK. The Daily Mail, one of the leading British tabloids, which leaked the report, claimed that Hindutva forces are forming alliances with far-right groups over their ‘common hatred’ towards Muslims.

For the first time, the United Kingdom government has reportedly acknowledged the role of Hindu nationalism, known as Hindutva, in the Leicester riot of September 2022. The UK Home Office report stated that “Hindutva nationalist extremism played a part in inciting hate among local communities” that led to serious disturbances in Leicester.
