Inflation in the United Kingdom fell for the second month running in March. This was largely as a result of lower prices at the pump, according to official figures released on Wednesday. March's lower inflation print is likely to pile pressure on the Bank of England to cut interest rates next month. The Office for National Statistics said consumer prices rose by 2.6% in the year to March, down from 2.8% the previous month.

US president Donald Trump has revealed that he will be announcing semiconductor tariffs “over the next week”. However he said that he would be willing to be flexible on some firms in the industry. This follows an earlier US customs notice which said that computers, smartphones and certain other electronics would be excluded from the 125% tariffs on Chinese goods coming into the US.
