IntroductionThe interferon regulatory factor (IRF) consists of a family of nine human transcription factors (1, 2). IRF1 was the first protein of this family identified (3) and was shown to induce the two type I interferons (IFNs) IFNα and IFNβ (4, 5). It was shown that IRF1 regulates a variety of target genes.
