Crescent, elliptical and elongated pockmarks are near-parallel to listric faults. Pockmarks are controlled by the geometry and attributes of listric faults. Differing fluid escape processes relate to two types of pockmarks. The studied pockmarks are evidence for fluid escape occurring since the Miocene. 1 Introduction Pockmarks are seafloor depressions considered as unequivocal indicators of fluid seepage (King and Maclean 1970; Hovland and Judd 1988).

INTRODUCTION Archaeomagnetism can be used as a dating method that relies on the palaeosecular variation of the Earth's magnetic field. It can serve as an alternative or complementary dating technique to other dating methods, such as radiocarbon or thermoluminescence (Catanzariti et al., 2007; Tema et al., 2013).
