The babbling waters of the Cleddau river were once a haven for salmon and trout, where fishermen and kayakers and swimmers could find peace and beauty. But when CGTN visited the waterway after being alerted by local people, we found an environmental tragedy. Two hundred scientists from 30 countries have contributed to a new report on the state of plants across the globe – and its findings are alarming. Published by London's world-famous Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, the survey says three out of every four unregistered species face extinction. Thousands have died fighting in the area and many of the injured come to hospitals like this one.

Europe's largest nuclear power plant is on a frontline between Ukraine and Russian controlled territory. Russian soldiers regularly shell across the river towards the city of Nikopol. At one time the Zaporizhzhia nuclear and thermal plants produced a fifth of Ukraine's electricity, but now all six reactors have been shut down. Despite this, there are fears it could be bombed, while Nikopol and nearby towns suffer from artillery fire most days.
