An orphan is an orphan, irrespective of how the death of his or her parents happened, the Supreme Court has said, asking the Centre if there are ways the benefits of schemes, including PM Cares fund, which were meant for children orphaned during the COVID-19 pandemic, can be extended to all orphans.

Three Indians have made it to the TIME Magazine’s 2023 list of 100 emerging leaders who are shaping the world. Cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur, tuberculosis survivor Nandita Venkatesan, and architect Vinu Daniel are featured on the list. The TIME100 Next is the magazine’s “annual franchise recognising the rising leaders in health, climate, business, sports, the arts and more”. The 2023 list has people from various fields including artists, astronauts, scientists, and a librarian.

The India Club in London, with its early roots in the Indian independence movement as a hub for nationalists and a home away from home for Indians in the country over the years, will close permanently on Sunday. With its walls adorned with photographs of prominent Indians such as former prime ministers, the Club’s founding member was Krishna Menon – who went on to become the first High Commissioner of independent India to the UK.

Three persons were killed and eight injured after a private bus carrying nearly 40 passengers overturned in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district in the early hours of Saturday, the police said. The incident occurred near Farnakhedi village, about 80 km from the district headquarters when the bus going from Indore to Jodhpur flipped at a turn due to heavy rains at around 12. 30 am, said Khachrod police station in-charge Narendra Singh Tomar.

The proposed rally of the opposition INDIA alliance in Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal in the first week of October has been cancelled, top Congress leader and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath said today. Discussions regarding the rally are going on with the Congress President and other partners of the INDIA alliance, Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala said, adding that no final decision has been taken on when and where it will now be held.
