Over the last few months, an Iranian state-sponsored threat actor has been deploying a new custom backdoor in attacks against various entities in the U.S. and United Arab Emirates, including organizations in the government, communications equipment, oil and gas and satellite sectors. The threat actor, which is called Peach Sandstorm and was first uncovered last year, targets victims in many countries in order to collect intelligence, using password spraying as an initial access vector.

JAKARTA - On Friday, August 23, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, revealed that they had detected hacking attempts targeting US officials' WhatsApp accounts from the administration of President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. Meta accused the Iranian hacker group known as APT42 of being the perpetrator behind the hacking attempt, a group previously revealed involved in the Trump campaign compromise.
