After outrage grew over Abrego Garcia’s deportation, the Administration acknowledged that it was the result of an “administrative error.” A district court judge, Paula Xinis, ordered the government to “effectutate” Abrego Garcia’s return.

    Jan-Werner Müller is a German historian and philosopher who has written a number of studies of right-wing populism. Müller’s central argument has been that populism should primarily be defined as a movement in which a leader claims to represent a silenced or forgotten—and almost always exclusionary—majority. It is a negative take on populism, which somewhat definitionally situates it as an ideology of bigoted authoritarianism.

    On Monday, a criminal court in France found Marine Le Pen guilty of embezzlement, and barred her from running for the French Presidency in 2027. Le Pen, the far-right leader of the National Rally, the political party formerly known as the National Front, had been leading first-round Presidential election polls. The National Rally is now likely to run Jordan Bardella, a twenty-nine-year-old member of the European Parliament who, since 2022, has served as the Party’s president.
