The Harvard women’s hockey team (2-12-2, 1-10-1 ECAC) is set to take on No. 13 Boston University (13-6-1, 11-3-1 Hockey East) in the semifinals of the 46th Beanpot Tournament this Tuesday night as the Crimson vie for the coveted title of Beanpot Champions. The tournament, which features local collegiate rivals — Harvard, Northeastern, Boston College, and Boston University — comes a year after the Beanpot Championship final games were played at TD Garden for the first time.

No. 11 Harvard field hockey has had a dominant season. While not unexpected given its deep bench and impressive lineup of returning players, the team is hungrier than ever for a chance to defend its title of Ivy League Tournament Champions. No. 13 Princeton (14-4, 7-0 Ivy) derailed the Crimson’s hopes of hosting the tournament in Cambridge, after a showdown in October that ended with an overtime heartbreak for Harvard.

No. 11 field hockey went undefeated this weekend in dramatic style, edging out conference rival UPenn (4-11, 2-4 Ivy) in the final seconds of regulation play on Friday, 2-1, and then beating No. 5 Saint Joseph’s in an overtime nail-biter (14-3, 5-1 Atlantic 10) 2-1 on Sunday. With the win over the Quakers, Harvard clinched a guaranteed spot in the Ivy League Tournament.

On Saturday, during the Head of the Charles Regatta, two Ivy League rivals faced off at Berylson Field, the perfect place for field hockey along the river. Despite being the favorite heading into the contest, No. 10 Harvard (10-3, 4-1 Ivy) fell to No. 15 Princeton (9-4, 5-0 Ivy), 2-1 in overtime. The hosts were celebrating 50 years of the Harvard field hockey program, but the Tigers spoiled the bash.
