It’s a sunny morning on Witherspoon Street. A couple holding hands strolls down the sidewalk, the woman wearing a sunhat and the man donning a baseball cap. A truck blares as it reverses into a minute parking spot, while a dog barks in the distance. The tables outside of Mamoun’s Falafel are largely unoccupied. Yet, in one of the cold metal chairs sits Paul Muldoon, clad in all-black, up to his sunglasses.

Dr. Joseph Schein ’37, Princeton’s then-oldest alum, passed away on May 24 at 109 years old. Schein received a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages & Literature. He was active in the French department, winning the Alden prize for his expertise in the language and writing a thesis on Charles Baudelaire that received honors. Outside of the classroom, Schein was a fencer and was involved in pre-medical society and Jewish life on campus.

At the height of pro-Palestine protests last spring, hundreds of people surrounded Clio Hall as 13 protesters occupied an office inside, ending with the arrest of all 13 inside the building. Now, those 13 arrestees are all facing charges of defiant trespassing in Princeton Municipal Court, after Judge John McCarthy III ’69 denied the plea deals of six defendants during a Tuesday hearing.

On Sept. 20, Dr. Jud Brewer ’96 visited campus to give a talk regarding anxiety and strategies for coping with it. Brewer discussed how to reframe the conversation around anxiety, focusing on thinking critically about why people have anxious feelings rather than cutting out potential triggers for anxiety. Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) hosted a vigil in the East Pyne Courtyard for the people of Palestine and Lebanon, as well as to mourn Marcellus Williams, a Missouri man whose execution last week drew criticism from some civil rights groups. The event was co-sponsored by the Princeton Arab Society and Princeton Muslim Student Association, among other student groups.
