Mike Ashley’s Frasers Group has dropped out of the race to buy the struggling cosmetics brand Revolution Beauty, raising questions over its future. Shares in Revolution Beauty lost one third of their value on Thursday after the Sports Direct and Flannels owner told the City that it “does not intend to make an offer” for the beauty brand.

The boss of AO World has warned that the electricals retailer could shut its loss-making contract mobile phone business within two months unless it strikes a more profitable deal with network providers. John Roberts, who founded the online retailer in 2000 after a £1 pub bet, said AO was not walking away from mobile phones entirely but actively considering pulling the plug on its mobile network contract business.

John Lewis has poached a key figure behind the transformation of Marks & Spencer, in a move that signals renewed ambition in its attempt to win back the shoppers of middle England. The department store chain has appointed Anna Braithwaite, M&S’s former marketing director, as its new chief customer officer. She will join John Lewis on October 1, following the completion of a non-compete period.

A scion of the John Lewis founding family has resigned from Oak Furnitureland less than a year into his role over hybrid working demands. Patrick Lewis, the great-grandson of John Spedan Lewis, the founder of the department store chain, stepped down as chief financial officer this month having joined the retailer last July.
