The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts (the Kennedy Center), located on the east bank of the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., opened in 1971 but was actually authorized by the National Cultural Center Act of 1958. Its original name, the National Cultural Center, was changed in 1964, two months after President Kennedy’s assassination. The Kennedy Center is dedicated to the performing arts and features operas, concerts, plays, musicals, ballets, movies, and dances.

On April 30, 1975, the city of Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese communists. A big military parade in front of hundreds of thousands of flag-waving Vietnamese was held last month in what is now called Ho Chi Minh City to mark the fall of Saigon 50 years ago. Many conservatives have been reflecting on this event. I don’t agree with what some of them are saying because they are apologists for the immoral, unnecessary, undeclared, senseless, criminal Vietnam War.

Although they are not illegal on the federal level in the United States, they are illegal in about 20 states and in many foreign countries—but not in “Red” China. A 1931 law in Michigan, MCL 750.224(1)(d), imposes severe penalties, including a possible prison sentence, for possession of brass knuckles.

The county of Burma or Myanmar has seen its share of natural disasters. A devasting cyclone in 2008 killed tens of thousands of people and left hundreds of thousands more homeless. To make things worse, the country has suffered from internal conflict for 50 years, and is currently in the midst of a civil war. Last month it was a devasting 7.7 earthquake that hit Myanmar. Over 2,000 people are confirmed dead, thousands are injured, and countless numbers of people are still buried.
