    It’s another subdued week on National Treasury’s eTenders Portal with little for the ICT industry to get particularly excited about. The hardware sector will be drawn to two tenders that could turn out to be interesting. Taking the headline is a request from Eskom for the pre-qualification of various suppliers for the manufacturing and supply of cellular network modems. These will be required for remote metering for its distribution business on an ’as and when’ required basis.

    Despite ongoing negotiations surrounding the approval of the 2025 National Budget, activity on National Treasury’s eTender Portal has started to pick up, albeit with state-owned entities leading the return to procurement activity. The State Information Technology Agency (SITA) dominates the issue, with three tender invitations, two of which target security solutions. In the first advertisement, the agency says it wishes to procure a penetration testing solution with support and maintenance.

The Department of Home Affairs stands out with its request for facial imaging booths, including support, maintenance, installation, movement, addition, change and decommission services. The department notes it has introduced facial image capturing booths as part of its modernisation efforts.
