INTRODUCTION Wild birds are used by people for many purposes, including food, clothing, ornamentation, religious practices, sport, and pets. The trade that supplies this demand is recognized as a serious direct threat to the survival of many species (e.g., Cardoso et al., 2021; IPBES, 2019; Morton et al., 2021; Ribeiro et al., 2019; Tingley et al., 2017).
