It’s ironic to read a new book about friendship and end up feeling lonely. Not lonely in the sense of being friendless, but spiritually lonely at church most Sunday mornings. I rarely find conversations lasting longer than five minutes. Most never mention the sermon. Everyone seems “good” but “busy”. Work is the safe go-to topic. Someone taps you on the shoulder to say “Hello” only because you’re blocking their way to the coffee. One son needs his hand taken away from the cupcakes. The other is bawling.

Quite possibly the most in-demand tour ever to come to these shores is finally here. Taylor Swift’s Eras tour sold out multiple shows at the MCG and Accor Arena instantly as more than four million Australians attempted to buy tickets. We were reflecting on the amount of effort and money people were expending to try and see Taylor Swift, and one of my family members piped up saying, “It’s so stupid, why would you want to spend so much to see her when you can just buy a speaker.

He was telling us about the existential dread people have been sharing on the Sesame Street character’s recent Twitter/X post. The account attached to the cutesy red Muppet, famous for talking about himself in the third person in a high-pitched babyish voice, asked on Monday: “Elmo is just checking in!
