    For many decades, evangelical churches in America, most of whom would be classified as Protestant and Baptist, even while they shirk those labels for something like non-denominational, have been living under the guiding hand of managerialism. No generation perfected this art better than the boomer seeker-sensitive pastors. These were pastors who turned the church corporate. While they maintained airs of biblical authority, they also made the ministry a market commodity.

    On our heavenly pilgrimage, we don’t settle for the ghettoization of Christian communities….We stand ready to defend our own with all the biblical masculine virtue we have to throw ourselves into the battle wherever it rages. We march forth, taking ground; we live with strength and courage because the Lord is with us. We don’t aim to lose. We aim to win because our victory is secure in Christ.

    A church that is hospitable and yet confident of its own identity and tradition is naturally attractive without trying to be. But even if it was not pleasing to degenerates, since when did the marketability of the “gospel” to the lost become the litmus test for faithfulness?
