Do reporters have more rights under the First Amendment than ordinary Americans? Should they? The answer to both questions is “no.” Unfortunately, a bill passed by the House of Representatives and is sitting in the Senate wants to change that. The , or the Protect Reporters from Exploitative State Spying Act, would allow the media to operate outside of the law and withhold information vital to federal criminal investigations of serious crimes, including national-security matters.

Don’t expect consistency when it comes to calls for political civility. When conservative activists go too far, calls for civility follow. When leftists misbehave and act uncivilly, we don’t hear much about civility. That’s no surprise because most of the toxic incivility seems to be coming from the left. Many on the left seem to believe that you must be evil if your views on politics, culture, and society differ from theirs. Take Barack Obama.
