This work compares cosmological matching conditions used in approximating generic pre-inflationary phases of the Universe. We show that the joining conditions for primordial scalar perturbations assumed by Contaldi et al. [J. Cosmol. Astropart. Phys. 07 (2003) 002] are inconsistent with the physically motivated Israel junction conditions; however, performing general relativistic matching with the aforementioned constraints results in unrealistic primordial power spectra.

Abstract Luminescent semiconductors are the key material in a host of optoelectronic devices, including solar cells, light-emitting diodes, and x-ray scintillators, and have been discovered at an increasing rate over the last decades. To optimize any device, a luminescent semiconductor’s photophysics must be understood and its loss processes minimized.

ABSTRACTWe present a study of rotation across 30 square degrees of the Orion Star-forming Complex, following a ∼200 d photometric monitoring campaign by the Next Generation Transit Survey (NGTS). From 5749 light curves of Orion members, we report periodic signatures for 2268 objects and analyse rotation period distributions as a function of colour for 1789 stars with spectral types F0–M5. We select candidate members of Orion using Gaia data and assign our targets to kinematic sub-groups.
