Three hours into the new year, a man identified by the FBI as Shamsud-Din Jabbar drove a pickup truck into a large crowd in New Orleans, killing at least 15 people and injuring dozens more. KBTX reported Wednesday afternoon that Texas Rangers are investigating connections to Jabbar in Lee County, less than an hour’s drive from Bryan-College Station.

The Battalion is proud to announce its editorial staff for the spring semester. Political science junior Nicholas Gutteridge will lead the publication as its editor-in-chief after serving as the managing editor since May. Journalism sophomore Ian Curtis will take over Gutteridge’s role as the managing editor after serving as the features editor. “I’m extremely excited to be stepping in as The Battalion’s editor-in-chief,” Gutteridge said.

President Mark A. Welsh III announced that Tom Reber of the Division of Student Affairs will be the interim replacement for Vice President for Student Affairs Joe Ramirez. The former Corps of Cadets commandant announced his retirement, effective Jan. 1, 2025, in October. Welsh distributed the email announcement to all Division of Student Affairs employees on Monday, saying the university had launched a nationwide search for a permanent replacement.
