BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - We are watching a cluster of strong thunderstorms this morning moving into the state. These storms could produce some damaging winds, hail, and frequent lightning. The greater risk for severe storms is west of I-65 though the early morning hours spreading east during the mid morning. While the threat for a tornado is very low, I think we could see some winds over 30-40mph with a few storms. Heavy rainfall is also possible.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Rain chances will largely take a break over the next few days thanks to high pressure building into the area. The main issue tonight and overnight will be the threat for some patchy dense fog to form during the a.m. hours. The fog will be most dense in areas where the heaviest rainfall occurred over the last few days. A passing shower is possible for Wednesday, but most of the day should be dry. If you’re going to the Baron’s baseball game, expect about a 30% rain chance.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - Alabama needs some significant rainfall. Several months with little precipitation can cause problems ranging from forest fires to reduced crop yields. Much of Alabama is in a moderate to severe drought. The worst drought conditions tend to be north of I-59 extending into the Tennessee Valley. Rainfall amounts in Central Alabama are around five inches below normal for the year. This usually dry pattern rivals 2016 and 2019.
