The Dillon girls placed seventh in the Class A standings at the state track and field meet with 33 points. Senior thrower Olivia Maunu scored the most team points with 10 on a third in shot put and a fourth in discus, Senior Riley McCoy won the most medals with four, and junior Izzy Regan had the best finish with a second in shot put. Regan had been a favorite in shot put since heaving a personal best 40-10 1/2 throw early in the season.

The Montana Junior High State Rodeo Finals returns to Dillon for the second year of a two-year stay this Thursday through Sunday. Over 100 outstanding young rodeo athletes will compete for a top four spot in their events which qualify them to the World National Junior High Rodeo Finals, June 22-27 at Des Moines, Iowa.

The Dillon Lady Beaver softball team made their second consecutive trip to the State A tourney last week, the only two such appearances in program history, and posted a 2-2 record that included a heartbreaking loss to Polson in the quarterfinal round. Polson would go on to place second in tourney to Southwest A powerhouse Frenchtown.

The Dillon tennis teams, both boys and girls, finished third at the Southwest A Divisional Tennis Tourney at Hamilton last week. The meet started on Tuesday and concluded Wednesday. Snow forced action inside for a portion of Tuesday’s early going. “We had a great showing over there as a team,” said Dillon coach Todd Nordahl. “Some things didn’t go the way we wanted but that happens when you get into a divisional tournament. A lot of really good things came out of the weekend as well.”kAms:==@?

With second place in the Southwest A standings and a Montana State A berth cinched, the Dillon Lady Beaver softball team rested injured starters in their regular season final at home versus longtime Class A power Hamilton, that with a win over Dillon, would secure third place in the Southwest A. Hamilton jumped out to a 8-0 lead at the top of the third inning, aided by a six-run explosion in the second inning fueled by a pair of doubles and five hits.

Dillon’s third season in Montana High School Association baseball proved to be the team’s most successful, with a second place finish in the Central Division and a home play-in game to advance to the eight-team state bracket. Dillon hosted Billings Central, third from the East Division, at Cubs Field for the right to go to state. Central ended Dillon’s season with an 8-1 win over the Beavers.

The Dillon girls placed second at the Western A Track and Field Divisional at Polson over the weekend, just one-half a point out of first place. Whitefish scored 81, Dillon 80.5 and Hamilton 79 in a tightly contested battle. “You could sit back and say if it wasn’t for this or that, but the girls stepped up and did well,” said Dillon coach Jason Truman of the fractional difference between gold and silver.

The Dillon boys and girls swept Anaconda by a total score of 14-0 last Thursday in the Beaver Senior Day match to conclude the regular season. The wins were dominant as the girls won at a pace to total 85 game wins to 12 for Anaconda, and the boys won by a similar margin, taking 83 games and losing 16. Dillon seniors Danner Ployhar and Aydan Estes, the #3 doubles team, are first-year tennis team players.
