NSU University School’s football team learned a lot this season. The Sharks learned how resilient they can be and how much pride they have. Now in its 13th year, the largest all-female competitive dragon boat team in Central Florida, powered by its 12 breast cancer survivors, continues to inspire as Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off today. “It’s a team you never imagine yourself being on,” said Barb Cooksey, 69, of the Village of Polo Ridge, who was diagnosed in 2018.

World Golf Hall of Famer Ben Hogan called it a “game of misses” and said “the guy who misses the best is going to win.”Joan Bott may have mastered one part — hitting holes-in-one. The 81-year-old hit her 20th ace in July. Bott’s shot found the bottom of the cup from 78 yards out on hole No. 1 at El Santiago executive golf course — the second one she’s hit there — using her 8 iron.

When it comes to golf, Ann Tomaselli is a natural. She must be. What other explanation could there be for someone who has only been golfing for less than three months to defy the 12,500-to-1 odds of hitting a hole-in-one, not once, but twice in a month? That’s what Tomaselli did. The Village of Hemingway resident sank her first ace on April 20 — a day before her 72nd birthday — on the sixth hole (86 yards) at the Bogart executive golf course.
