WVUA 23 News has learned two electronic bingo halls in Greene County have temporarily shut down. River’s Edge Bingo and Frontier Bingo, both in Knoxville, were shut down, sources said, because their machines are not up to state code. River’s Edge posted on its Facebook page a week ago that it was temporarily closed. WVUA 23 News contacted Frontier Bingo Hall, but go no answer. No word yet on when the two facilities will reopen.

One local high school held a Day Of The Dead festival Friday, offering students, staff and parents a chance to honor their loved ones who have passed on. The Dia de los Muertos event at Holt High School was part of the school’s Hispanic Heritage Festival. There was music, food trucks, face painting and games.

Jasper Mayor David P. O’mary has died. City Officials say the family reported the passing of O’mary around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. O’mary was elected mayor in 2016 and was unopposed in the 2020 election. Jasper officials posted on the city’s facebook page, that O’mary led the way for the city of jasper to achieve the greatest financial strength in its history and perhaps the greatest growth in retailand housing.

Four years ago on Oct. 17, University of Indiana college student Schuyler Bradley was shot and killed on the Strip just off the University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa. The man accused of his killing, Zachary Profozich, was arrested and charged with murder the same day Bradley died. But he was soon released on a $150,000 bond and the case has yet to go to trial.
