    JOHANNESBURG - The principal of Forte Secondary School in Dobsonville, Soweto said that the matric class of 2024 faced a number of challenges. Mukosi Mudavhi said that crime and substance abuse were the top two issues faced by learners in the areaMudavhi said that despite these challenges, the school managed to achieve a 100% matric pass rate. He said that external support from police and other agencies assisted in restoring order at the school.

    JOHANNESBURG - The principal of Forte Secondary School in Dobsonville, Soweto, says discipline is the key to obtaining a 100% matric pass rate. Mukosi Mudavhi has been leading the school since 2011 and said this was the first time he managed overall success. The class of 2024 collected their results at the school on Tuesday. Mudavhi said he was proud that he finally managed to reach the goal of a 100% pass rate.

    JOHANNESBURG - Pupils who matriculated at Thubelihle High School in Jabavu, Soweto said that infrastructure challenges negatively impacted their studies in 2024. The school is made up of mobile units that were erected when the cohort began high school in 2020. Some learners told EWN that at times, classes would be conducted under a tree due to unbearably high temperatures in the mobile units. Only one of the school’s blocks is currently under construction while the rest consists of mobile units.

    JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Education says it is confident and ready for the resumption of teaching and learning in 2025. The department says it has focused on learning materials, furniture, transport, nutrition programmes, and safety, ensuring all schools have the supplies they need to start the year.
