With City College’s spring semester coming to an end, the Associated Student Government (ASG) decided to give a large chunk of their remaining budget to student-run clubs requesting compensation. During their meeting on Friday, May 2, the ASG provided a grand total of $5,855.40 between three clubs: the Astronomy Club, Biology Club and the Computer Science (CS) Club.

Catalyzed by a student petition with over 250 signatures, widespread campus activism, and several consecutive visits to the Associated Student Government’s (ASG) board meetings, the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) club successfully persuaded the ASG to draft and pass a resolution calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Palestine. The ceasefire resolution had been the club’s primary goal since its conception on April 5 by Ferdaouss Elmoussaid, the SJP club president.

California Sen. Monique Limón made a guest appearance, sharing personal anecdotes and political advice to the board members of the Associated Student Government (ASG) at their weekly meeting on Friday, April 26. Limón is the Senate representative of California’s 19th district, including all of Santa Barbara County and over half of Ventura County. She has been deemed a ‘climate champion’ by Politico Magazine for her efforts in the environmentalism movement.

The Associated Student Government (ASG) held their weekly board meeting on Friday, April 19, passing a nearly unanimous resolution in favor of the Student Justice for Palestine (SJP) club’s ceasefire petition, and discussing a visit from California State Senator Monique Limón. Members of the SJP club have made an appearance at five recent ASG meetings, reading their petition’s mission statement, investigative news articles, original poems and the like, the first time being Friday, March 8.
