    Pixel art describes a technique for creating digital illustrations at the individual pixel level. This type of art was the result of low resolution displays in early videogame systems. Today, our phone and computer displays have millions of pixels. Despite this, the art form is very popular and the “retro” videogame look is used in many contemporary games. I’ve now created 35 illustrations of buildings in Tongwynlais.

    Samuel Coupe Fox (1863–1953) was a prolific photographer who left a fascinating collection of images, but there’s no information about him online. These images of Tongwynlais are just a few from the collection held by Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales. 1897 – 1920This first image is very interesting as it shows various people using the Glamorganshire Canal. The photo is on a glass lantern slide and contains several codes to identify it, but not the date it was taken.

The 4th Cardiff Troop was set up in the Cathays in October 1908, just five months after the first publication of “Scouting for boys” by Robert Baden-Powell.

    At an event in Edinburgh on Wednesday, the Integrated Quantum Networks (IQN) Hub was formally launched in front of an audience of over 120 researchers, industry stakeholders, and government representatives. This initiative, which represents one of the five UK quantum hubs announced in July of last year, is specifically aimed at fostering progress toward a fully realised quantum internet.

    This series was inspired by an article from John&Jane that explored the design of a modern flag for Cardiff. In the first part I looked into the history of Cardiff and found some examples of the “Cardiff Arms”. In the second part I discovered some of the history of the arms and shared more examples of their use. Since then, I’ve been scouring the newspaper archives for more references and finding examples around Cardiff.
