Following their wonderful Heathers: The Musical, Pelican Productions presents the second musical in this season: Newsies Jr., and its equally terrific. This high energy musical is based on the 1992 Disney film, Newsies, which in turn was based on a real historic event – the ‘News Boys Strike’ in New York in 1899. In 2011-12, Newsies was reworked for Broadway with book by Broadway legend – Harvey Fierstein – sharpening the rebellious youth element.

AbstractUsing a mouse equivalent of FDA-approved cannabidiol (CBD) dosing, we found high dose CBD affects opioid induced persistent apnea (OIPA), the principal cause of opioid related fatalities. CBD pretreatment mitigated respiratory depression from fentanyl in awake mice and significantly delayed OIPA onset in anesthetized mice, effective as the opioid antagonist naloxone.

BYU goes into the NCAA tournament as a 4 seed with hopes to start a deep run into the NCAA tournament with an opening win over Weber State Friday night in Provo. The Cougars come into this game with back to back wins to finish the season at West Viriginia and TCU. BYU plans to not overlook any opponent as it is a single elimination tournament, but the Cougars are highly favored in this matchup.

I collect advertising displays, especially motion displays, and I have a couple for Hamilton railroad watches with the figure of a train conductor or lineman who turns his head and/or swings his lantern. Someone once told me his name is Akkie, but I haven't been able to confirm it or find any additional info on him. He's wearing a cap with the number 992 on one display, so maybe he was used mainly to market pocket watch model 992?

BYU went into Manhattan, Kansas on a five game winning streak which was snapped by Kansas State. The Wildcats beat the Cougars 3-0 on Thursday night and followed that performance with another 3-0 victory on Friday night. BYU had one of their worst hitting weeks of the year as they hit .075% on Thursday followed by a .184% effort on Friday. Kansas St. setter, Izzi Szulczewski, had her way as she tallied 64 assists between both games.

BYU Women’s Volleyball finished their road trip with a 3-0 victory in Oklahoma on Saturday. The Sooners gave the Cougars a battle in Norman, Oklahoma as each set was decided by 4 points or less. The cougars finish this road trip going 1-2. Erin Livingston showed her dominance and continues to lead the team in kills. She recorded 22 in this match and looks like she will not be slowing down anytime soon. Livingston had her way this match as she recorded a hit percentage of .724.

BYU men’s basketball released its schedule Tuesday for the program’s upcoming inaugural season in the Big 12. The Cougars will start their season at home on November 6 against Houston Christian. They will play 13 teams before entering league play. BYU women’s volleyball could not have asked for a better start to the season, beginning 11-1 before arriving at conference play. The Cougars began their Big 12 tenure with a pair of substantial tests from No. 20 Houston and No. 18 Baylor this past week, with BYU sweeping both to stand perfect thus far within the conference. It was the battle of the Cougars Wednesday night in Provo, as BYU faced Houston for the first Big 12 match in program history.

Just two days ago, BYU beat Utah 3-1 in front of an emotional sell out crowd, but they have to refocus as they head into Orem to matchup with Utah Valley University. UVU is on a 2 game losing streak after dropping a match to Utah State last night. This will be the first time UVU has played a ranked opponent this year, after going 3-7 to start the season. BYU has started the season 9-1 and comes into this match ranked #12 in the nation. This will be the last weekend before they start Big 12 play.
