When the Sun Devils traveled to Colorado College in early November and got swept, they were on the cusp of breaking out. The sweep does not tell the whole story of the weekend — the Sun Devils outshot the Tigers 72-42 despite losing both games. ASU was in a rut of outplaying their opponents but not getting the results it wanted, mostly due the laundry list of injuries that the roster had suffered.

The team was missing key pieces to the lineup due to injury and they were searching for answers. As ASU started to get players back from injury, it started winning and has not stopped.

Graduate forward Artem Shlaine scored his first goal as a member of Arizona State Hockey, Scottsdale native sophomore forward David Hymovitch scored his first goal at Mullett Arena and more importantly, it was the Sun Devils’ first conference win in program history. Senior defenseman Ty Murchison summed it up best.

Anohther defensive stalemate took place in Marquette, Michigan Saturday evening between ASU and Northern Michigan, with neither team budging until the final minutes of the game. Things were looking eerily similar to the night before, when ASU barely edged out a 3-1 victory despite outshooting Northern Michigan 37-16. ASU controlled the time of possession battle for most of the game Saturday, outshooting Northern Michigan 38-22 while also rattling off 74 total shot attempts.

ASU (1-3-1) experienced something similar last week in their 4-1 loss against No. 10 Michigan at home, but that time it was just a poorly-played five minutes to start the second period.
