    The proposed house would be built on farmland owned by Cllr Healy-Rae’s father, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Michael Healy-Rae. The Castleisland-Corca Dhuibhne representative and his partner Maria Murnaghan have submitted a planning application to Kerry County Council to build a large, two-storey five-bedroom house and a garage at Gortnaboul, Kilagarvan.

    More than 100 delegates representing members of the Army, Navy and Air Corps from over 40 districts across the country are attending the conference at the Gleneagle Hotel. The delegates will consider 71 motions and 13 constitutional amendments at the conference, which will run until Thursday, May 15. Mark Keane, president of the Permanent Defence Force Other Ranks Representative Association (PDFORRA), said his association has an “unprecedented” number of motions from its districts in Ireland.

    The committee is hosting training facilitated by As I Am, Ireland’s Autism Charity, that is aimed at helping local groups and organisations to cater to the needs of autistic and neurodivergent community of Killarney. The event will be held at the Gleneagle Hotel on Wednesday, May 21 in the name of creating a more inclusive environment in Killarney. Two sessions will be held on the day, to cater for different schedules. The first will run from 10am to 12pm. The other will be held from 2pm to 4pm.

    Adult learners keen to get speaking ‘as Gaeilge’ took part in the Irish language programme over a number of weeks and received special certificates of participation. The Blas Beo programme was delivered by Dr Muiris Ó Laoire, of Munster Technological University, and was supported by Karen Trench. Adults came from well beyond the borders of Finuge to participate in the Teach Siamsa classes, in which they were put into groups categorised as beginners and intermediates.

    Glór ón Sceilg is a book which contains a selection of work extracted from the eight original Irish language books released by the late Michael Kirby, or Mícheál Ua Ciarmhic. Though the author took up writing very late in life, he managed to release several highly regarded books in Irish and English before he died in 2005.
