The Loyola Marymount University Lions (17-20, 2-0 WCC) handed the No. 6 Ducks (35-4, 9-1 Big Ten) a painful 5-3 upset loss in Eugene’s Jane Sanders Stadium on Monday afternoon. “We just didn’t do enough today,” head coach Melyssa Lombardi said postgame. “We’ve got to go back and debrief a little bit and figure out why that happened.”Oregon rode into Monday’s one-game affair on a wave of momentum.

Oregon (5-8, 0-6 Big Ten) fought hard to stay close with No. 16 Michigan (9-4, 3-2 Big Ten) in the final home game of the season, but ultimately couldn’t keep up with the scoring of the Wolverines in the 14-9 defeat. Now, it hasn’t lost in four-straight meets and looks to shock the NCATA with an upset of the program that hasn’t dropped a meet in four years.

While I relish getting to talk hustle stats with Oregon head coach Dana Altman, the Big Ten also sports some of the best coaches in the nation. For years, I had seen Michigan State’s legendary head coach Tom Izzo go after reporters with his gruff voice, but this time it was me. For years, I had seen UCLA’s puppetmaster head coach Mick Cronin pop off at reporters asking about his future, but this time I was there.
