Within days of the disaster, Vero Beach showed up for its veterans, in the end helping it raise $100,000. Vero Beach Veterans incurred $100,000 in damages during Hurricane Milton. Dozens of groups came together to fundraise, including the Elks Club, United Way and Eagles Club. The veterans club will host a grand reopening ceremony at 4 p.m. on June 7. Inside a modest clubhouse, affectionately dubbed "the V" by its members, its four walls symbolized camaraderie, patriotism and sacrifice.

Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to sign the Boater Freedom Initiative into law. The Florida Supreme Court has final say. When judges tasked with interpreting the law are the ones who break the law, there are special rules for disciplinary action. Florida judges are expected to uphold “high standards of conduct” to promote faith in their rulings and in the courts.
